NORTH WALES CRUSADERS winger Gavin Conroy is looking forward to this Sunday’s Betfred League One clash at home to Newcastle Thunder.
Thunders progress both on and off the field has shown no signs of slowing down this season, and as Jason Payne’s men come to the Queensway Stadium in good form, Conroy is relishing the test: “I’m looking forward to coming up against Newcastle who are a very good side, he said.
“They are going well this year and it will be one of the teams who are pushing at the top come the end of the season.
“However, we know that with the group we’ve got then we are capable of challenging any side in this league.”
Conroy arrived in Wrexham during the off-season from the amateur game but has quickly settled into life in League One: “I’m really enjoying being at Crusaders and playing at this level.
“It’s been a big step up for me, and I’m not overly impressed with my start to the season, so I know that I’ve got work to do.
“My personal aim for the season is to just keep improving and hopefully cement my place in the side.”
Conroy added: “The lads have been really welcoming towards me, and that has helped me to settle into the club quickly.
“We know when to have a laugh and when to knuckle down, but there is a really good atmosphere here.”
Speaking about the squad’s aims for the season, Conroy said: “We know that we’ve started slowly, but I’m optimistic about the season ahead.
“We’ve got a strong group together and have a good balance of experienced and young players.
“I think that we can push on and a top-half finish has to be the least of our aims.”
